Wire Netting (Chicken Wire) Installation Guide Download this as a PDF file here
Wire netting (chicken wire) has to be used to help meet one hour fire resistance in separating floors from below when it is not possible to upgrade the ceiling. So these instructions detail how to install the netting from above which is quite simple.
Wire netting is installed to support the Acoustic Mineral Wool infill which is necessary to help comply with Part E for the soundproofing of separating floors.
Once the floorboards have been lifted, simply nail or staple the wire netting to the joists more than 100mm from the top. It is as easy as that. Once fixed and installed, 100mm of AMW type acoustic mineral wool can then be installed on top as a loose fit and the combination of the wire netting and AMW will give the additional fire protection from below that is required.
The floorboards can be screwed down after the installation has been completed and the rest of the Part upgrade for a separating floor can be completed.
